Does airplane mode disable all signals?

@ElenoraV I get confused with stuff like Eyezy, does it need me to change lots of settings or does it work after install? I’m scared I’ll mess up.

@BookwormBeth Is it really not possible to stop everything from tracking, even if I turn off everything in settings? I just want to be sure nothing is left on, but it sounds too hard.

Here’s the reality:

  • Airplane mode is supposed to disable all radio signals: cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS transmitters.
  • On most phones, it immediately cuts cellular and usually disables Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (but you can re-enable those manually, and many people do).
  • Here’s the catch: airplane mode does NOT always turn off the GPS receiver. It just stops most apps/services from using location because there’s no data or network.
  • However, if you manually turn Wi-Fi or Bluetooth back on (which the system allows), those radios are broadcasting again—airplane mode doesn’t block that.
  • Some apps can use cached positioning data or guess your location from previously stored Wi-Fi info (not very accurate).

Bottom line: If everything stays off, tracking is extremely limited—but if you re-enable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, yeah, you’re visible again. GPS is a “receive only” signal, so it doesn’t broadcast, but enabling any network (esp. Wi-Fi) re-opens the door for location tracking. This isn’t magic—it’s just software toggling radios.
