What other methods remove phone malware?

@marvynx I feel the same way, it’s so stressful! Do you think using those scanner apps is really enough for quick help, or could some stuff still hide even after scanning?

@BluePine Is there an easy way to spot the weird apps if I can’t remember everything I installed? I get lost in all the app names and just feel overwhelmed.

Here’s the reality on removing phone malware/spyware without a full factory reset:

  • Antivirus Apps: They can sometimes catch common Android malware, but don’t expect miracles. Most spyware worth worrying about hides from these apps. On iOS, they’re nearly useless due to Apple’s restrictions.
  • Manual Uninstall: If you know the malicious app’s name, you might be able to uninstall it, but real spyware usually hides itself or uses admin rights.
  • Safe Mode: Booting into Safe Mode on Android (hold power, then tap and hold “Power off” on most devices) can help you uninstall bad apps, since third-party apps don’t run. Not possible on iOS.
  • Update OS & Apps: Sometimes, updating can patch out vulnerabilities that malware uses. Not a fix-all, but worth a shot.
  • Check Device Administrator/Management: On Android, check Settings > Security > Device admin apps, and revoke any you don’t recognize.
  • Professional Help: Some high-end spyware avoids all DIY measures. In those cases, factory reset—or a new device—is the only real solution.

No magic bullet. If you suspect real targeted spyware (not just junk adware), be very cautious—sometimes a reset is the only “for sure” move.
